It is not necessary to trim your fingernails in the first four weeks after the birth. In the beginning the fingernails are still very soft and you can hardly tell where the nail ends and when the nail bed begins.
The fingernails should always be kept short and round, so that the little ones cannot injure themselves on the sharp edges while they sleep. Don't cut your fingernails too short. Even if you think that the nails are still very long and that you will have to cut again soon. Better to cut it more often!
For your information: Toenails don't grow as fast as fingernails, by the way. These also have to be cut as straight as possible so that they do not grow in.
Tip: Do it in pairs. One can hold the baby's hand and the other can then carefully cut her fingernails. Alternatively, the second person can try to distract the baby, for example with a music box. Cuts in stages. If your baby gets restless, you can resume clipping later when your baby is feeling good again.
